The first bit of riding was actually in London, about 10km from our bunk at the house of FLJ’s sister to Paddington Station, starting out at 7:20 a.m.
Paddington Station

At Paddington we loaded the bikes on a train bound for Penzance.

And it got us there … eventually.
Land’s End

After a rolling taxi ride from Penzance to Land’s End we set off … retracing our route to Penzance on the A30.

Disaster struck the first day as I cycled too carelessly and whacked a pannier against a concrete barrier, breaking it (the pannier) off my bike rack and necessitating some hasty field repairs before we could continue. Bungee cords to the rescue!
